What is Forgiveness?

Not forgiving

is to be tethered

by a bond of steel

dragging the other person

through the tar

holding you back

weighing you down

limiting your potential

to be happy and free.

You see

forgiveness

releases a prisoner.

But, finding the prisoner

isn't the other person

it's you

But saying you forgive

isn't the same

as actually forgiving.

But how do you forgive?

In the Bible

62 passages contain the word

forgive

27 with the word

forgiveness

But not a single one

explains how.

But what is forgiveness?

It's not a shortcut

to healing.

It's a key

to the prison

you hold each other in.

So, how do you

forgive?

Forgiveness is acknowledging

specifically what was done

to you.

For instance,

you can't forgive

a murderer for murder

because you weren't the one killed.

You're still here.

But, you can forgive

the specific pain, anguish, and grief

you went through.

Forgiveness is acknowledging

that the person is more

than the wrongs they've done.

Forgiveness

is letting go

and moving on.
