Phases of Rain

Arizona sun in cloudless skies
made me yearn for rain.
But, when the rain came
the clouds mutely
dumped buckets
pooled into rivers
blocking streets
rushing underpasses,
known there as The Wash,
decimating homeless camps
without making a sound.
In Minnesota
thunder rolls as a growl into a roar.
Rain, drunk by vegetation,
mud slides down hills.
Lightning webs across the sky,
illuminating the rain,
and cascades of trees.
Yet, here too are the days
where the sun shines
and cotton clouds drift
shocking me as drops of water
kiss my sunbaked skin
as a soft breeze blows.
