Resentment

Resentment is the bitterest venom

congealing in the core of your vessel.

Feed it, and it rises through your body.

Hot. Devouring your stomach lining.

Leaving ulcers, body pains; misery.

Poisonous sludge stalling the heart beat.

Magma lifting your sword to another.

But, vengeance does not cure the adder’s kiss.

For’ the other person has not been bit,

rather, it was you who sucked the venom.

Continue as its automaton

and feel your body crumble into dust.

The only antidote is to forgive.

A heart encased in magma or fire, illustrating the burning, consuming effect of resentment on the emotional core of the person, symbolizing how bitterness can destroy the heart and spirit.
